Looking for an app that inhibits all internet activity after a user inactivity timeout period on a Windows 8.1 pc
My problem is that I have a WiFi hotspot with a limited monthly data maximum. I have Windows 8.1 installed. It has long been installed and has had a long time to collect malware and other apps that might be accessing the internet in the background for all I know. What I do know is the following: The inner workings of Windows, malware and computers in general is a great mystery to most people (including me) as is knowledge of whether my automatic operations option is operating optimally (Lol). If I leave Windows perpetually on and unattended, it will quickly overwhelm my monthly data maximum in forever chatting with the internet needlessly. If I turn my pc off, Windows etc will be perfectly happy in NOT forever chatting with the internet needlessly until turned on again. I need an app that will inhibit all internet chatter if the user is inactive after a selectable (mouse?) timeout period (assuming a Windows update or a user initiated download is not in progress) and then quickly resume as soon as needed again (or at least after first mouse activity). I.e. I just want to inhibit all unnecessary internet chatter as much as possible. This would seem to me to be a common and basic need of many users. Is there an app capable of doing that (without the user needing to script and/or spend a lot time learning how to do so in a sophisticated, versatile, full-featured coms management app)?
Windows 10 wifi networks not available
I recently hare restored my laptop installing windows 10 (from an original DVD), did all the updates.. installed all the drivers it looks there are no issues/errors etc.
The wifi network adapter look as it works fine: it can show me the nearby wifi networks, I activated the tethering on my mobile and the laptop managed to connect and surf the web.
