Multi-platform Map Application

I’m working on a web project (PHP, jQuery) which currently using Google Maps powering up the map functionality of the application, however we need to make it multi-platform like you can go to the dashboard and choose one from 5-10 map providers (which Goolge Maps is just one of them) to underlying your map functionality.

How important is using the same language for client and server?

I have been evaluating architecture solutions for a mobile project that will have a web-service/app in addition to native apps and have been looking at various libraries, frameworks, and stacks like Meteor, this being a sort of “open stack package framework”, is tightly bound with Node.js.

Client-Side V.S. Server-Side Searching?

I am currently helping to design a web site and application in HTML. We would like the user to be able to search the site/app for desired content via a search bar. We would also like to include an advanced search ability to allow for different search options and more concentrated searches.

What is meant by sandboxing?

Sanboxing is listed as one of the many security features in html5 specification . Can someone explain what is meant by sandboxing? Does it relate to HTML only or to JavaScript also?

What is the origin of the phrase “SaaS”?

Recently I heard someone say they built a “SaaS” application. At first I thought “this guy knows something new”, and I figured SaaS was some hyped enterprise framework or design pattern, but after looking up the SaaS Wikipedia page I realized it’s similar in meaning to “web app”.
