OSS – GPL v3 plugins in non-copyleft codebase.
I’ve been working on software to modify a game’s resource files, and I’m planning on releasing it in open source. I’m perfectly fine with releasing my code under gpl v3. However, I’m afraid that that would deter others from writing extensions for my software, as I have had others offer to do so – the community which I’m working with is very much afraid of open source leeches, and as a result, the majority of popular released projects are closed source. As such, I’d be more comfortable with something like BSD or MIT.
Need some advice on CLI design, I need to provide simple but powerful command line options
I am writing a utility that runs on RHEL5 command line. I need my command line options to be simple but powerful. I looked at the various UNIX utilities to get an idea of how simple command line utilities have to be. Do you guys suggest any documents/links that talk about command line etiquette? I am modelling my utility on top of LVM (that’s all the info I can give for now). I know it’s a software engineering question, but I thought it would be appropriate to post here. Please advise….

How can I send a signal to a program via external hardware
I am trying to find a piece of hardware that will signal a program to start a timer when it is moving and stop when it stops. The hardware can just be a ball that moves and is connected to the computer through USB, I was thinking of something similar to the way a mouse would work. For the programing I would like to use c# or possibly ActionScript with adobe air. I am a web developer and have not had any experience with hardware or drivers and would appreciate any ideas on where to start. Maybe there is some piece of simple hardware out there that I can use to send signals to the computer or some literature of articles for beginners that you can point me to. Thanks in advance
Project frozen – what should I leave to the people after me?
So the project I’ve been working on is now going to be frozen indefinitely. It is possible that if and when the project unfreezes again, it won’t be assigned to me or anybody from the current team. Actually, we inherited the project after it had been frozen before, but there was nothing left by the prior team to help us understand even the basic needs of the project, so we wasted a lot of time getting to know the project well. My question is what do you think we should do to help the people after us to best understand the needs of the project, what we have done, why we’ve done it, etc. I am open to other ideas of why should we leave some tracks to the others that will work on this project also.
