Is there show/hide functionality for boiler plate content in google docs?

Suppose a rather large team maintains a document template in google docs that contains boiler plate content ^1 for the purpose of cloning this document to create hundreds of particular instantiations of the document. It’s a pretty good process overall, but what I struggle with when creating (and reading) such documents is communicating (and understanding) specifically what content is original to this document vs what came along with the template. Is there a way to do this in google docs? Ideally, you could hit a button to show/hide (or darken) the boiler plate content. The best method we have is to use doc history, but I’m wondering if anyone has a better solution for this.
