I have a number of distinct Java utilities that are shipped together. Currently there are two startup scripts for each utility: a .sh
one for Linux and a .bat
for Windows.

Does using a database server make sense if the application only does things locally?
I’ve seen some applications that are basically application software that run local to the system (so they don’t have communicate much over the network). These applications seem to depend on database servers in order to store their data.
