hyper-v virtual machine turning off write caching is not allowed

On a hyper-v virtual machine running Windows Server 2012R2, I am unable to turn off write caching. A message appears stating that changing the setting is not allowed.

I didn’t realize when I setup the VM that apparently it authomatically enables write caching. Since the whole thing runs in memory anyway I see no benefit to having this on, and it’s a known risk of data loss in the event of power failure.

Does anyone know how I can turn this off without rebuilding the VM? It’s a domain controller, and I don’t want to go through rebuilding if I can avoid it.

Cheers,

Tried MS instructions to turn it off in Policy Settings for the disk in question. Not allowed.
