I want to fork the vs code codebase in git repository and clone it in my system. After doing so, I am getting dependency errors and npm install does not happen successfully.

Can someone guide me with the steps to set up vs code project.
Also, I want to make modifications to the existing layout of VS Code.
And then use it as a separate application.

Is it a feasible solution? If yes, any guidance shall be helpful.
